We facilitate residencies, build prototypes, and produce research — all rooted in specific territories and the living world.
The Organization
Founded by Marie Pétrault and Francesca Paola Montella in 2025, Constellations Sauvages is a transdisciplinary non-profit integrating art, ecological science, and situated knowledge through rewilding practice. It functions as a field research collective, a prototype laboratory, and a platform for cultural and ecological transformation.
Recognizing that the separation between humans and nature has fractured our relationship with the living world, Constellations Sauvages seeks to reimagine relationships grounded in listening, reciprocity, and cohabitation.
It bridges dualities and brings together in situ and ex situ stakeholders — shifting perception and implementing projects that prove other ways are possible.
To rewild is to reweave connections and to support the emergence of new narratives, new designs, and new ways of inhabiting the Earth.
Our Mission
We develop facilitation, design, and systemic thinking in service of rewilding society, connecting actors, disciplines, and territories so that new forms of coexistence between humans and the living world become possible.
Each project is rooted in a specific territory, community, and ecological reality — always situated. We create networks around the subject of the wild, bringing together actors who rarely meet: scientists and artists, institutions and communities, local residents and international researchers. Our method is research-action: listening, observing, experimenting, and co-constructing. We combine scientific and situated knowledge, and encourage civic involvement in understanding and transforming relationships with the living world.
From these encounters emerge collective intelligence, shared projects, and sustainable local dynamics.
We believe that lasting change begins with a shift in perception, how we see, feel, and relate to the living world. When perception changes, action follows.
Why Constellations Sauvages
Constellations
/ˌkɒnstəˈleɪʃən/
The connection of diverse elements, ideas, and gestures coming together to form new narratives. Each element, a story, a practice, a place, becomes a luminous point of encounter, gaining meaning through the relationships it forms. Not fixed institutions, but living networks that reveal identities, histories, and possibilities. A way of connecting points to orient ourselves in the world, to give meaning, to navigate, to tell stories. Ephemeral, shifting, alive, a constellation is remade every time it is looked at, named, traversed.
Sauvages
/sovaʒ/
A reappropriation of the word "sauvage". In France, a word of duality, rooted in the Middle Ages, long synonymous with isolation, brutality, the primitive, something to be overcome. We reclaim it as an invitation to rewild our human experience, our societies, and our imaginations, to rediscover the instinctive, free, and relational force within and around us. We are not trying to define fixed answers, but to hold a space where people can explore, question, and eventually arrive at their own understanding of the sauvage. The force that remains in relation even when the relation has been broken.
What We Are
"An invitation to reconnect our wild beings to the wild planet that carries us."
